Good Zing Experts are health, alternative healing, and wellbeing practitioners from a wide range of disciplines whose certifications have been verified by our in-house team to ensure they are who they claim to be and are qualified to share their knowledge and expertise.
Some of our Experts are individuals who hold registered certifications, while others have trained in practices where there are no regulated certifications but have been working in their respective field for a number of years. For example there are Healthcare professionals who have very clear certifications, insurance and are regulated by professional organisations, while others, such as Vedic Meditation practitioners, might not have official certifications. Rest assured, we have checked their references and teachers to confirm that they have been trained in the discipline they say.
We do not accept individuals as verified Experts who have completed only a few weeks of a course in their chosen discipline. However, they are free to put up their favourite wellbeing and self-care tips just the same as other everyday users.
We understand that some people are passionate and practice certain wellbeing practises personally, however we do not accept these advocates as Experts without official qualifications. We know that many of you are self-taught, curious and want to spread the word about this space – we love that you are a part of the Good Zing community and are sharing your tips and voting on others, so keep them coming!
It is important for you as you go down your own self-care and wellbeing journey to understand the different types of qualifications that an Expert holds.
For example, what is the difference between a Dietitian, a Nutritionist, a Nutritional Therapist, and a Health Coach? Are they all qualified to give the same information?
In the UK, Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level. They are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law, and are governed by an ethical code and registered with the statutory regulator, the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Nutritionists in the UK work in different roles including public health, health improvement, health policy, local and national government, in the private sector, Non Government Organisations (NGOs) and in education and research. Nutritionists are qualified to provide information about food and healthy eating, and only registrants with the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) can call themselves a Registered Nutritionist (RNutrs).
A Registered Nutritional Therapist (MBANT) works on an individual basis with patients using a wide variety of tools to identify nutritional imbalances and assess how these may be affecting symptoms and health status. This is may involve understanding each patients’ genetic, biochemical and lifestyle factors. Nutritional therapists are most commonly found in private practice and will use a scientific evidence-based approach as a preventative tool or to help individuals achieve optimum health. Nutritional Therapy is regarded as a complementary therapy. The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) is the professional membership body representing nutritional health professionals. It is also important to remember that nutritional therapy is a complementary therapy and is not a replacement for medical advice.
Finally, Health Coaches in the UK work to steer clients towards their non-serious health goals while motivating them to look at the whole lifestyle picture and also cover holistic lifestyle approaches. They cannot medicate or prescribe supplements or specific dietary recommendations or meal plans.
Always (whether on Good Zing or elsewhere) do your research to understand what qualifications someone has and what remit that gives them to provide wellbeing information.
In addition, it is important to note that each country has different levels of qualifications and titles regarding various disciplines.
We strongly encourage all Good Zing Experts to only write (and vote on) wellbeing tips under their own remit of qualifications.
As a Good Zing user, make sure to acknowledge the Expert’s title – remember, it is up to you, to look out for who is giving what advice - a Yoga Teacher is not necessarily qualified to discuss or share dietary or nutrition tips, unless they are also a qualified Dietitian or Nutritionist, for example.
